Writer Director "Running Scared" dvd commentar comments re Johnny Messner:
"Another actor in this sequence that we've been seeing that I want to talk about is
Johnny Messner. Johnny Messner is just such a cool guy and yet so intimidating
in this film. I think people walk out of this film and they're completely frightened
by who he is. But again you couldn't meet a nicer guy. Johnny just had a tv show
in the United States called Killer Instinct I belive, and he was very good that. And
Johnny is an actor to watch. I really think one these days Johnny is going to be a
strong leading man or a very strong supporting actor. However that plays out. But
I love Johnny. I'd like to do a lot of films with him as well.
"I believe this was the first day we shot with Johnny and with Arthur."
"Look how intimidating Johnny is. You know Johnny Messner with just one stare
the way he's looking... looking at Paul. I loved how Johnny played the scene.
Johnny's interpretation was that he felt Joey was just a punk and he didn't
deserve this hot looking wife. And he's always had the hots for her and in his
mind he's going to kill Joey and he's going to come and get this woman.
And he feels like what a waste."
"Johnny's just wonderful here. The menace he conveys."
"Johnny and Paul had an interesting dynamic as actors. They both wanted to go
for absolute reality. And their both in actuality really tough guys. And whenever
Johnny's sticking a gun in Paul's throat and smaking at him with it, it's for
real. I mean these guys, these guys went so far beyond, ah you know, what was
called for them. I love this scene between the two of them because I feel the
grit, I feel the anger, I feel the intensity and thosew were always the stakes
everyday we were shooting this film."
"Johnny Nessner... again Johnny bringing it... Johnny is the ultimage bad ass.
Johnny and Paul... is just perfect nemesis of one another."
