But it wasn't until snagging the decidedly more</B></div> <div> <B> rugged role of a mohawked soldier in last year's "Tears Of The Sun" that he got out from behind the bar</B></div> <div> <B> for good. "I hate the sob story, but it really does  happen that  way. It's like, 'I've been pushed to the limit, </B></div> <div> <B>handled all I can take, now here's your Scooby Snack.'"</B></div> <bR> <div> <FONT SIZE="2" COLOR="#0099FF" FACE="Arial" ><B>PRETTY TO GRITTY:</B></FONT><B> </B><B>Continuing with his tough-guy turn, this month Messner plays a Delta Force Special-Ops </B></div> <div> <B>instructor opposite Val Kilmer in the David Mamet thriller "Spartan". How did he solidify the typecast transition?</B></div> <div> <B>"I started mangling myself," the (still very hansome) actor muses.
