Spotlight on Saige
October 2007
Saige plays the part of LIBBY in "Believers" and chatted up her experience on the set exclusively with Johnny Messner Online...
" I got the part of Libby after auditioning 3 or 4 times, at first I just went in and read by myself, I had to do 3 scenes both times, 2 of them
were real sad crying scenes. The last time I read with Deanna, ( and 2 other moms )and the director, Daniel and 2 of the producers,
Deanna was great and they brought us in again together, so I was hoping it went good.
On the first day we were on location at a house and we did the last scene first, it was strange because we all just met but had to act
like we were already family. Johnny was great, he made me feel comfortable right from the start. Deanna and Jon weren't there
because they weren't in those scenes. But I met everyone else, all the ad's and crew, everyone was cool.
We filmed at an abandoned meat/butcher factory in L.A. next , it was real creepy and cool, and were there for about a week, I met
Jon and Eric who played Io and John Farley, they were so funny. Johnny brought his dog to the set too so I played with him a lot.
Jon, Johnny and I had a lot of scenes together so we ran our lines together, and goofed around a lot. and really got to know each
other, they will always be my 2 favorite actors, You asked if we had to work on a bond , but we really didn't both Johnny and Jon
were real protective right away, looking out for me. Deanna and I are so close we see each other all the time, and email, I just worked
on a commercial with her, it was great because I missed her so much.
The next place we worked was an old missile silo, in the mountains. My first day there one of the crew found a rattle snake, they held
me and I got some cool pictures of it. It was pretty hot and we had to be in long sleeves all the time, that was hard. But it was great
because we were all really close by now, we had a few nights when we were doing night shoots and were bored between scenes
so Johnny pulled his car up to our trailers and he put one of my cd's in and I taught everyone to hip hop dance, it was so funny...
( I am a dancer and they use to make me dance all the time on the set ). Sometimes the teacher on the set would bring cool stuff
like geo mags or juggling sticks and we would all play, adults too.
Even though we had a lot of real serious scenes we weren't serious in between takes, we laughed a lot. One time Johnny and I were
filming the scene where he knocks out John Farley and and he grabs me and we escape, we were suppose to jump over the body
and run, well John wasn't really laying there and one time we forgot to jump and in character Johnny says hey we were supposed
to jump over that body Libby lets do it again... we started laughing so hard ... Another time Eric and Deanna got all the people who
were supposed to be having their last dinner to do a sing a long, Daniel knew nothing about it. It was great.
We pretty much had fum all the time, it was the best crew I have ever worked with. At one point we had 5 Johns/ Johnny/ Jon on the
set so we came up with nicknames...
The scene I had when Johnny and I were escaping and running through the mountains at night was cool, they had real snake wranglers
running ahead of us and made sure there weren't any snakes, I tripped a couple of times , I was wearing sandals, so Johnny carried me
in some of the scenes , I don't remember which they used. But it was fun and exciting. I really got to ride in the truck for some of the scenes,
that was cool too, because they really had to go fast.
On the last day of shooting it was so hard because we knew we had to say goodbye, a lot of crying, they were like my family now.
I have 3 projects I am working on this year into next year, 2 scary movies, one called Nightmare Carnival and one called Shrieking
Violet, we start early next year and a kids show called Snuggy Bear and the t shirt kids, it should be fun. I just filmed a small part in
a movie called All I want For Christmas and an episode of Nip/ Tuck, Thanks for asking." ~ Saige~
